On the 25th of January, Alberto Recchioni took part in a full-day training in Confocal Microscopy organised by his Supervisor Dr Clare O’Donnell and Noor Haziq Bin Saliman at the University of Manchester/Eurolens Research (Figure 1).
Haziq is currently a PhD student at the University of Manchester and his research focuses on the inflammatory response of the ocular surface to contact lens wear. He kindly shared his knowledge in confocal microscopy applied to the ocular surface and cornea that will help Alberto to progress his PhD studies in dry eye.
The Heidelberg Retina Tomograph (HRT) with the Rostock Cornea Module (RCM) (Figure 2) becomes an advanced confocal microscope applied to the corneal structure, limbus and conjunctiva. The device has been recently acquired by Optegra Eye Sciences to progress the analysis of the cornea before and after SMILE surgery and to link new advanced ocular metrics together with the most common techniques already adopted in dry eye research.
